This week on the Nonprofit Jenni Show, play a round of Nonprofit Trivia with Michelle Gustafson from Caritas of Austin to test your knowledge about the types of charity events donors love! (We think it’s most fun to play along while listening to the podcast, but keep reading for a written summary of this week’s trivia game…)
COVID-Safe Fundraising Event Inspiration + Individual Fundraising Tips
This year has been full of unexpected challenges, so this week on the Nonprofit Jenni Show, let’s talk about how to plan for the new year. First, Dr. Patton McDowell (podcast host of “Your Path to Nonprofit Leadership”) discusses mergers, alliances, and other forms of collaboration that help your nonprofit have a greater impact. Then Jenni offers three tips to improve the way you communicate with your supporters in 2021.
Host a Great Virtual Fundraising Event
Nine months into the pandemic, we still have no idea when it will be safe to host events in person again. Many nonprofit leaders still feel unsure how to get started in planning their organization’s first virtual event. This week on the Nonprofit Jenni Show, Jenni interviews Melissa Norden, the Executive Director of Bottomless Closet, about how she planned her nonprofit’s first ever virtual event. We also play another round of nonprofit trivia to learn how to make your fundraising events earn more revenue.
6 Tips for Online Charity Auctions
Back when it first became clear that in-person nonprofit events wouldn’t be possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, I recorded a coaching call I had with two nonprofit leaders (Emily and Sydni) to advise them on planning their very first virtual fundraiser. With their permission, I released the call recording on May 1 in an episode called “Advice for Your First Virtual Fundraising Event”. This week on the Nonprofit Jenni Show, Sydni talks about the results of their online auction and shares some tips from my Silent and Online Auction Guide!
How to Host Better Events, Part Two
Hosting a nonprofit event sounds easy...until you actually do it! There are a million little pieces that have to come together for the big day, and I wanted to talk about all of them. There was so much great information in my interviews this week that I have to break this episode of the Nonprofit Jenni Show into two parts. In Part Two, we continue chatting with Holly Clark, a seasoned nonprofit events planner and owner of Holly Clark Events. Holly tells me how she plans and coordinates an upscale signature event for a well-established nonprofit (Dancing for Safe Haven) and helped plan a brand new outdoor event for a young organization (FrankTown Festival of Lights). She explains how she uses the support of volunteers in addition to nonprofit staff, how to set expectations for a new fundraising event, how to work with in kind donors and corporate sponsors, how to decide on event add ons (like silent auctions), and so much more.
